$3.95 VEGAN LIPSTICKS? | REVIEW + SWATCHES

Some people like to say “you get what you pay for” which in some cases is true, but not necessarily when it comes to makeup. As we’ve learnt, with makeup, you don’t have to pay top dollar to get something of quality. In fact, some of our holy grail products that we keep coming back to are from the ‘drugstore’, or have a lower price tag. For example, we swear by Maybelline’s EyeStudio Lasting Drama Gel Pot. We’ve been loyal to the product since we first discovered it at the beginning of our makeup journey 5+ years ago, and we haven’t been able to find anything that rivals it.

Adding to our list of affordable makeup gems is a new discovery from Colour by TBN. Now at $3.95 a pop, we wouldn’t hold it against you if you’re a little skeptical, because we sure were initially. However, the new certified Vegan Lipsticks* proved our point quickly that you can’t judge makeup by its price tag. There are 20 new shades in 3 different finishes: demi-matte, satin and sheer. Given how affordable the range is, the shade range and various finishes on offer are quite impressive.

The satin and sheer finishes are our favourites. They’re both creamy on application and comfortable on the lips. The demi-matte formula is one of the more comfortable ones  we’ve tried from the drugstore. It doesn’t tug when you apply the product from the bullet, however, it can be slightly drying if you have dry lips. A balm is definitely recommended before applying the lipstick, but don’t let that stop you from sampling out the demi-mattes. We found that this finish in particular left a slight stain on the lips which we are fans of because instead of topping up throughout the day, we can just pop on some balm and we’re good to go!
