Our love affair with oil cleansers is no secret, with our obsession well documented here on the blog. But a few months ago, we discovered a new player to the oil cleanser market that immediately swept us off our feet.
We’ve gone through our fair share of oil cleansers, so we thought we had seen it all until we were introduced to Erno Laszlo and their Double Cleanse Travel Sets. The duo comes with a cleansing bar and a cleansing oil in a neat (and instaworthy), travel-friendly case. There are 5 cleansing sets available, each designed for a specific skin concern:
- Exfoliate & Detox
- Hydrate & Nourish
- Whiten & Brighten
- Soothe & Calm
- Firm & Lift
Double cleansing is a Japanese and Korean beauty phenomenon which we are big fans of. Some aren’t so keen on the idea, arguing that cleansing twice is excessive and will dehydrate or irritate the skin. However, we believe with the right products, double cleansing is an amazing system to incorporate into your skincare routine to thoroughly remove impurities and makeup. Double cleansing isn’t necessary, but at the end of the day, particularly if you’re wearing heavier makeup or SPF, a deep cleanse with a dual step system can remove it all more effectively. For those constantly battling with blackheads and whiteheads, we can’t recommend double cleansing enough.
We have been using the Soothe & Calm set* from Erno Laszlo’s Sensitive Collection, formulated with skin loving ingredients to “calm irritations and soothe dryness”. The set contains a Sensitive Cleansing Oil and a Sensitive Cleansing Bar. This product can appear intimidating at first, but trust us, it’s not rocket science. First, apply the oil with dry hands to break down and dissolve any makeup, then dampen the cleansing bar under warm water and gently massage over your face in circular motions before rinsing. The idea with this two step process is that the first ‘cleanse’ removes makeup and SPF while the second ‘cleanse’ will clean the skin on a deeper level. We were instantly in awe of this duo when we first cracked it open. The oil does not leave our skin feeling greasy at all, and breaks down that top layer of makeup (waterproof mascara included) and the day’s grime with no elbow grease needed. The cleansing bar brings an interesting twist to double cleansing, one that gets our big tick of approval. It does a top job of cleansing deeper, and removing any impurities and residue leftover after the first cleanse. It also boasts some serious kick-ass ingredients with Chamomile offering an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibacterial protection while antioxidant-rich green tea extract defends against free radicals. Together, both products work beautifully to cleanse and calm the skin without dehydrating it, making the pair regulars in our pm skincare regime.
If you’re keen on trying out just one of the 2 products, the full-sized Sensitive Cleansing Oil (Soothe & Calm) and Sensitive Cleansing Bar (Soothe & Calm) can both be purchased individually for $58 and $38 respectively. Alternatively, you can try the duo as part of a double cleanse system in the nifty Sensitive Double Cleanse Travel Set (Soothe & Calm), available for $38.
