Oil Cleansers

Our new skincare obsession is the oil cleanser. We’ve been using oil cleansers for a while now, but we’ve recently started to use them religiously again. An important part of the 10-step Korean skincare regime, oil cleansers have now become a staple in ours. We like to double cleanse using one of a handful of oil cleansers we own before going in with a cream cleanser. We find that oil cleansers really help to breakdown makeup and any impurities from the day. There are many skeptics when it comes to oil cleansers, but we think that it’s largely due to the fact that many aren’t using it properly. The key to oil cleansing is applying it dry first. That is, with dry hands to dry face, and then massaging it gently but thoroughly. This is where the magic happens! It might sound complicated, but it really isn’t. Oil cleansing is as easy as 1, 2, 3:

  1. With dry hands, massage a few drops of cleansing oil onto dry face
  2. Add a few drops of warm water to emulsify and continue massaging
  3. Rinse off with warm water

Our picks for oil cleansers have to be the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil and Shu Uemura’s Anti-Oxi + Skin Refining Cleansing Oil*. We can safely say that DHC oil which we picked up in Japan started our love affair with oil cleansers. A cult favourite amongst Asian beauty buffs, we witnessed people shoveling boxes into their shopping baskets! We’re trying to preserve what’s left and treating the oil like liquid gold, because sadly, this stuff is hard to get a hold of in Australia. If your’e going to try just one oil cleanser, this one is definitely our top recommendation. A more recent discovery is the Anti-Oxi Skin Refiner from Shu Uemura. One of their many cleansing oils, this is another standout product. Our first experience with this was when we had it used on us during our Shu Uemura makeover which you can read about here. It’s great for sensitive skin and does an amazing job at melting away makeup. A bottle of this can be a bit pricey, but trust us when we say that it is worth it. Only a few drops are needed per use, so don’t worry, you won’t be going through the bottle like water.
