2016 Makeup Favourites

Wrapping up our 2016 favourites series is a round up of our top makeup picks from the year that was.

Kryolan’s Concealer Wheel * | We’ve been using this for over a year now, and haven’t looked back. This concealer wheel has all your colour correcting needs covered. These are definitely  high-coverage concealers, so a little goes a very long way. Given that it offers high coverage, we find that tapping the product on with your fingers followed by a few bops with a makeup sponge gives the best finish.

2016 Makeup Favourites

Arbonne Makeup Primer Base De Maquillage* | We’re not going to blab on about this one because we have raved about this primer a number of times now. We’re onto our second bottle and can guarantee that we’ll be re-purchasing this beauty once we’re on our last pump. This product is definitely one you should pop onto your ‘to buy’ lists. One of Our 4 Most Reached for Bases, this primer creates a smooth canvas for any makeup you layer on top. Thanks to it’s quick drying formula, we particularly love popping some under our eyes before concealing.

Maybelline EyeStudio Lasting Drama Gel Pot Liner | A top favourite for the past few years, this gel liner is one of our holy grail products. Pigmented and long lasting, this stuff doesn’t budge once it’s on. Praised as a dupe for high-end gel liners like Bobbi Brown’s Long Wear Gel Eye Liner, we use this product almost everyday and will probably continue to do so for a while yet.

2016 Makeup Favourites

Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil* | We reviewed this brow pencil back in July here, and it’s still on high rotation. The wide, flat nib is ideal for creating hair like strokes for flawlessly sculpted brows. When it comes to eyebrow pencils, we’ve gone through our fair share, and we have to say, this may be one of this best on the market at the moment.

Benefit Ka-BROW! Eyebrow Cream-Gel Colour* | The name is a mouthful, but this is another brow fave of ours. To be honest, we were tempted to include Benefit’s entire brow range in this years favourites. Like the Goof Proof pencil, we’ve been reaching for this pomade frequently. The waterproof formula means this cream-gel will last from am to pm, so you won’t have to worry about your brows doing a disappearing act by home time. The built in brush is all we use to apply the product. The flawlessly designed angled bristles combined with the pomade make for a killer combination.

Rimmel #InstaFlawless Perfecting, Radiant Skin Tint* | This has become our daily base. If your’e looking for something that will give you that lit from within glow, look no further. We love that the skin tint is light weight and breathable, offering just enough coverage without leaving us feeling like we’ve caked on a ton of product. We like using the light coverage tint with a bit of powder when we want more coverage, otherwise on it’s own, it really does leave our skin looking Insta ready. The downside of this product is that it only comes in 2 shades, we are using light medium at the moment which matches us perfectly. Read our first impressions of the skin tint here

2016 Makeup Favourites

Cezanne Mix Color Cheek Palette | We picked this one up from our trip to Japan last year and have been in love ever since. The quad is perfect for a quick pop of colour. The highlight shade means we can skip using a highlighter, with a quick swirl of all 4 shades enough to give us a nice youthful glow.

2016 Makeup Favourites

L’Oreal Infallible Sculpt Contouring Palette* | We can’t rave about this palette enough. We use the shade light/ medium, and just like the Maybelline gel liner, this has been a staple in our makeup bags since it came into our possession.  Unlike other contouring products, this offering from L’Oreal allows you to subtly sculpt your face for natural chiseled cheek bones. The cream-to-powder formula is easy to blend, perfect for quick application and those new to contouring.

Shiseido’s Maquillage Edge Free Eyelash Curler | With notoriously stubborn lashes that refuse to hold a curl, our lives were dramatically changed when we picked up this beauty on our first trip to Tokyo. The curler fits our eye shape perfectly, making it easier to evenly curl each lash without any pinching. More affordably priced than fellow high-end curlers, this life changing contraption is sturdy and well worth every cent. So far this curler has been unmatched by any other we’ve tried. 2016 Makeup Favourites

Ishean’s Kiss Me Heroine Make Long and Curl Mascara | This mascara needs no introduction. Perhaps our top makeup discovery of 2016, this Japanese mascara has truly changed our lash game. It holds a curl like no other mascara we’ve tried which is a hard feat when it comes to our straight stubby lashes. The formula is also incredibly waterproof, so it’s what we reach for when we know we’ll be watching a tear jerker at the cinemas! This is a big statement, but this is the BEST mascara we’ve ever used! Read our full review here.

The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara* | Our drugstore mascara pick of 2016 goes to this beaut. If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll know how much we heart this product. Coming a close second to Isehan’s Heroine Make as our all time fave mascara, this one for Maybelline really took us by surprise. We’ve always been big fans of their mascaras, but the ability of this particular one to hold a curl was what got us hooked. Yes, ideally we’d love a mascara that does the works- hold a curl, volumise and lengthen, but our top criteria and perhaps the most difficult to fulfill is hold a curl which this one does brilliantly! 1. This is a great favourites post, I haven’t used any of the products you guys mentioned, which is a good thing! I can add a few on my list to try, but was interesting to learn about the Maybelline the falsies push up mascara was both of your favourites. I have heard so many mixed reviews on this, and was looking forward to trying it when it first launched in Oz. May have to wait for it to go on sale to see if I like it or not. In the meantime, I should focus on finishing off the mascaras I have before thinking about buying a new one! 🙂 x

    1. Yes, you definitely need to try out the mascara. We’re quite picky with mascaras because not many will hold a curl, but we find that the falsies push up does. The Isehan one has to be our top pick of the two though. Let us know how it goes!
