Despite what people think, finding a good foundation from the ‘drugstore’ is not an impossible task. We have quite a few trusty foundations we constantly reach for that won’t break your bank, but this month, we’ve been hearting 3 in particular.

Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation | Pure Biege*

We had our reservations about this foundation when we read the words “matte”. As we do have skin  on the dry side, we’ve always leaned towards bases that are hydrating. From the first time we used this foundation, we have been blown away. It definitely has a matte finish, but it does not cling to dry patches and accentuate them which was our biggest fear before we took the plunge. This little tube lives up to its claims, leaving our skin feeling velvet smooth, creating a nice base for you to layer other products like blusher. The foundation offers medium coverage for us, perfect for days when we want a bit more than a tinted moisturiser.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25HR Foundation | True Ivory*

We just can’t get enough of this stuff.  It was featured in our Most Reached for Bases, and it’s safe to say that this product is still one we come back to all the time. It’s comfortable, breathable and provides pretty decent coverage. Honestly, what more can you ask for?

Rimmel #InstaFlawless Perfecting, Radiant Skin Tint | Light Medium*

This is another one that we can’t get enough of. In fact, our mum is a big fan and we catch her using it on a daily basis! Technically it’s a skin tint, but we’ve been showing it some extra TLC this month, so we couldn’t not include it. We wrote about our first impressions of this gem, and really, nothing has changed. We still think it is the go to for a natural, my skin but better finish. It’s glowy and light weight, ideal for the warmer weather we’re heading into.

  1. Okay, you’ve convinced me! It’s time for me to check out that dream velvet foundation! it’s FINALLY sold in singapore as of a month or two ago? Yeah, that’s how slow we get things, years later at times! Can’t wait though, I’m searching for new bases right now.

    1. Yes!! do try it out and let us know what you think. We definitely know what it is like to have to wait for makeup releases and vicariously live through pictures and videos online. We’re constantly eyeing products released in the US months before it arrives in Australia, but we’ve also had highly hyped products that they didn’t even bother releasing here!!

    1. Hi Heather! There’s nothing to be scared of! There are so many gems in the drugstore. People really under estimate affordable brands because of their price tag, but if you put that aside, you’ll be surprised with how many amazing products you’ll find. If your’e still not sure about drugstore foundations, try a few from the Loreal range. They’re on the higher end of the drugstore spectrum, and did you know they’re owned by the same people as YSL?!
