A good setting powder that does its job is hard to come buy. We have a few that we reach for religiously when we want to set our concealer or to keep the shine at bay, but as any beauty buff would attest to, a few is never enough.
When it comes to finishing or setting powders, we tend to stick to the translucent variety. We’ve currently got cult favourite, Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder and William’s Pro’s Zero Powder on rotation. And recently, we’ve added NYX’s HD Finishing Powder* to the mix. As well as translucent, it comes in Banana and Mint Green.
The powder is so finely milled and light weight. If you steer clear of setting powders because you hate that heavy, cakey feeling, this may be one for you. The light weight formula means it’s breathable and it really doesn’t feel like you’ve got anything on. Be warned though, the translucent powder can leave a white cast when first applied. So make sure you blend the product into the skin properly to avoid looking like you’ve dunked your face in a bag of flour.
The finishing powder definitely controls our shine, and compared to Rimmel’s Stay Matte Powder, we have to say that it is longer-lasting. If you like the dewy, lit-from-within glow, we’d advise against applying the powder all over your face! It is incredibly mattifying, so as fans of a dewy skin, we tend to just lightly dust the product where we’ve put concealer and on our forehead.
