Today’s post is all about the base.
Forming the foundation, or blank canvas if you like, base products can make or break your look. That’s why having solid bases that perform their duty well is so important. When we first got into makeup, we quickly realised that finding the perfect base products is no easy feat. While we have yet to find a line up of fool proof bases, we do have some current favourites that we reach for daily.
Arbonne Makeup Primer*: Of all our current bases, this primer is probably the closest to being the one. Our skin always feels incredibly smooth after applying a pump of this. This primer drys quickly, leaving our skin incredibly smooth in seconds. For this reason, we particularly like to use it under our eyes before concealing. We find that with this primer, our concealer does not cling to any dry patches, something we struggled with in the past. Sadly our bottle is on it’s last leg, but don’t worry, we will definitely be re-purchasing this one!
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer: We used to be devotees of Rimmel’s Wake Me Up concealer, but looking for a change, we picked this bottle up. Light and blendable, the formulation of this concealer comes pretty close to the Wake Me Up concealer. It does a decent job of covering up most of our dark circles and brightening the under eyes. If your’e after more coverage, we do recommend wearing this over a corrector like the Innoxa Cover and Correct Palette. Where this product gets massive props is its sponge tip applicator. It makes it hassle free and quick for express, on-the-go makeup.
Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation: When this foundation came onto the scene, it caused quite some buzz in the beauty blogging community, and we understand why! This gem offers medium to full coverage, making it a perfect budget option for those looking for something more than a tinted moisturiser or a BB cream. Unlike other products offering the same level of coverage, this foundation is actually breathable. Hallelujah! We’re not sure about 25 hours, but this definitely carries us through a 9 to 5 day without any hiccups.
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer: We bagged a sample of this stuff a while back and have barely made a dent in it. This concealer is more heavy duty than the Maybelline Age Rewind, so it is slightly thicker in consistency. Despite this, it is just as easy to work with. This concealer does a brilliant job of erasing dark circles in seconds. Its high coverage prowess also makes it a good go to for concealing any spots or imperfections.
