We adore the romance of a subtle rosy, berry smokey eye, but until recently, we never dabbled in the look ourselves. Mainly because the blush tone shadows we had in our collection left us looking like we had come out the wrong end of a bar fight or suffered an unfortunate allergic reaction. But thanks to one of the latest additions to our makeup bag, a subtle rosy smokey eye has been our go-to look.
Kanebo Media’s Gradient Brightly Colored Eyeshadow Box in WN-01 has been a real game changer for us. Before this trio walked into our lives, neutral, earthy tones were all we wore on our lids. But now we feel like our makeup has been given a re-vamp with some much needed colour.
Unlike similar palettes in our collection, these shades contain slightly less red undertones which is why we don’t walk away looking battered and bruised when we sweep them over our lids. Yay! Formulation wise, all three shadows are buttery and extremely easy to work with. They give a nice sheen to the eyelids without being to overwhelmingly shimmery. We haven’t experienced any issues with fall out either which we know is a big fear for most people when it comes to anything remotely glittery.
These swatches definitely don’t do the shadows justice, but the colour pay off is quite impressive. Many glitter eye shadows tend to be poorly pigmented, so your’e often just left with traces of glitter on your lids, but that isn’t the case with this trio. Each shadow can be built up from a sheer wash of colour to a more dramatic, intense finish, even the lightest shade which is usually the worst performing. We find that the best way to apply these is to pat/ dab on the shadow with either your finger or brush before blending.
We picked this palette up in Japan, but have have been looking online for places that stock these and other Kanebo brands. If you know of any sites where we can get our hands on them and other Japanese brands, help a girl out and let us know below!
