The latest addition to Rimmel’s line is sure to have every lipstick maven drooling. The Only 1 brings 12 new shades to the table, and as the name eludes, the lipsticks claim to be the Jack of all trades.
The new formula boasts game changing performance in the 4 coveted attributes of a lipstick, but do they really?
- Pigment: The range promises true to bullet colour which it absolutely delivers! These lipsticks are far from your sheer butter glosses. While you can work with a light hand and build up the product for a more vibrant look, one sleek is enough to pack a vibrant punch.
- Hydration: Chaffing, dry lips are something we battle with often, and for this reason we tread the bold lip line with caution. While we love a bright red or hot pink, they demand the spotlight which isn’t ideal when your lips resemble the Sahara Desert. With this in mind, hydration usually makes or breaks new lip products for us. Just like their Kate Moss collaboration, we were blown away by how creamy and moisturising the formula are. With ingredients like Rosa fruit oil leaves and Vitamin E, they don’t settle into the lines of our lips or cling to unsightly dry patches.
- Comfort: The creamy and moisturising formula makes these lipsticks lightweight and a comfortable option to carry you throughout the day.
- Wear: We are always skeptical of the words ‘long wear’, but it in the case of this range, we approve its use. These lipsticks don’t slip around during the day with one re-application enough to hold you over for the rest of the day. Even when we swatched the lipsticks on our arm here, they took a lot of convincing to scrub off.
While The Only 1 surprised us with its performance in terms of pigment, hydration, comfort and wear, where the collection falls short is the selection of shades. While admittedly, 12 shades is an impressive offering, there aren’t many nude options. To be fair, the concept behind the line is intense and high-impact, so it’s dominated by deep plums, daring reds and fuchsias. The formulation of these lipsticks are on point though, so it’s a shame that those who aren’t fans of bold lips have to miss out.
