The eyes are the window to our souls, so when it comes to makeup products we can’t live without, along with under-eye concealer, mascara tops our list. Even without any other eye makeup, we’ve always found that a generous coating of mascara can really open up your eyes. For the last few months we’ve been in love with our Maybelline Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara, but finally decided to see what else was out there in the mascara world, starting with Revlon’s Lash Potion Volume + Length Mascara. While we are impressed by the volume and fullness the mascara adds, we’re not too sure that it does much for the length of our lashes or that it has very good wear.
We love the holographic like packaging of the mascara, it definitely makes finding it in our makeup bag less of a challenge. But on the downside, as you can see from our photos, the paint/covering of the packaging annoyingly peels off and transfers to our hands.
It’s a shame that the mascara fell short in so many other areas, because it did do wonders in volumising our lashes. The larger and rounder brush really helps in creating a clump-free, fuller lash effect.
From the name Lash Potion Volume + Length, we were expecting our lashes to look a lot longer but we were left disappointed. Revlon’s website claims it will give your lashes “Supernatural length”, but it definitely does not lengthen our lashes as well as the Colossal Cat Eyes mascara.
Long Wear D
Although we’ve been using the non-waterproof version, unless we’re kissing in the rain Notebook style, we’d expect the mascara to stay put. We don’t have overly oily eyelids, but we found that the Lash Potion smudged under our eyes pretty early on in the day. So we wouldn’t dare to wear this on our bottom lashes! Maybe the Waterproof version would have longer wear?! We guess an upside to this is that the mascara is fairly easy to take off. Washing our face with our cleanser is usually enough to remove it all at the end of the day.
Holding Curls C
Our eyelashes are naturally fairly straight, so a mascara that holds our curls gets extra brownie points! This is definitely something the Lash Potion failed to do. Maybe this is related to it’s poor long wear? We’re not too sure.
OVERALL GRADE C
We had pretty high hopes for the mascara, so we were obviously disappointed by how it turned out for us. It may very well be an amazing mascara on other eyelashes, but we would definitely not repurchase it nor recommend it.
Have you tried Revlon’s Lash Potion? What are your thoughts on it?
